6 easy exercises for hip and knee pain
How much exercise is that hot cross bun going to cost you?
With Easter eggs appearing on the supermarket shelves earlier every year, you may already be in the habit of buying a couple every time you buy milk and bread. Likewise, every time you walk past the bakery, you’re tempted by the hot cross buns. Of course, a treat once in a while is fine, but these seasonal treats and indulgences can quickly add up.
Don’t fret, I’ve done the maths for you. To know whether a particular food is splurge-worthy or not, the list below shows you how long you would need to exercise in order to burn off the kilojoules in some of your favourite Easter delights. And, I don't mean to spoil all the fun.
Small Lindt Gold Bunny (100 g) 2270 kj 50 min cycling
Red Tulip Rabbit (150 g) 3225 kj 80 min circuit training
2 Cadbury Crème Eggs (40 g) 1436 kj 60 min aerobic class
2 Caramello mini eggs (25 g) 1016 kj 20 min rowing (machine)
Darrell Lea Rocklea Road (1 packet) (145 g) 3147 kj 55 min run (5 min/km)
Bakers Delight Traditional hot cross bun (no butter) (70g) 968 kj 35 min tennis (singles)
Bakers Delight Traditional hot cross bun (with butter) (70g) 1120 kj 40 min yoga
Choc chip hot cross bun (70 g) 1130 kj 60 min walk (4 -5 kph)
Note: Figures are estimates only and based on a person weighing 70kg. All activities listed denote moderate exertion (as opposed to vigorous activity).
Wholesome Homemade Birchir

This recipe will take you 2 minutes.

All you need is
1 ½ cups rolled oats
1 tbsp sunflower seeds
1 tbsp pepita seeds
1 cup freshly squeezed orange juice (can use skim or soy milk if you prefer)
1 cup mixed berries (can use frozen)
2 tbsp natural yoghurt
The night before
Mix seeds and oats in a bowl
Pour over juice
Add a little water to make sure oats are covered in liquid
Cover and put in fridge
The next morning
Add yoghurt and berries.
This is recipe is low in fat, low GI and loaded with soluble fibre, calcium, antioxidants and good fats.
Serves 2.
